12e; POLLY WHITE ; Wednesday 7/12 Wood Spirit in Cottonwood Bark
Wood Spirit in Cottonwood Bark, 1-day class (WE)
Polly White (a member of the Colorado Carvers Club) has been carving almost 20 years. She began teaching classes for her Colorado club about eight years ago and expanded to teach and encourage non-carvers at the Coyote Creek Gallery in Fairplay, Colorado. She’s been attending and taking classes at the Rendezvous since 2009 and began teaching here about five years ago. Carving “found” wood and introducing new carvers to the art is one of her favorite activities.
On Wednesday, Polly will instruct how to carve a wood spirit in cottonwood bark by roughing out a 90-degree angle to get to the durable area of the bark for the face; establish the eye area; define and cut in the nose; and, add expressive details and features. The student will learn several techniques for carving eyes.
The full 1-day class fee of $55 is due at time of registration. Cost of the cottonwood bark, $12, is payable to Polly on the day of the class.
Number of students for the Wood Spirit: 3 minimum and 10 maximum. This is open to carvers of all skill levels.
Tools needed: Bench knife; variety of gouges, v-tools and chisels.
Questions may be directed to Polly at [email protected]; or calling 720-256-3816.
