09c-e Tom Sarff; Mon 7/11-Wed 7/13 Beginning Carving
This three-day introduction to carving is intended for those who have never carved. The class covers safety, basic knife cuts, the approach to creating three dimensional figures, working with wood grain, carving basic eyes and hair, sanding, U gouge and V tool selection and their use, work on a snake to learn to work with wood grain. During the remainder of the class, the student will select, complete and finish (paint) one or more of over 12 projects ranging from easy to complex. The projects include cowboy boots, owls, several dogs, bears, and a Christmas Tree Ornament.
All required tools and safety equipment are available from the instructor. Bring any carving tools and a safety glove if you have them. Do not buy tools for the class.
Your blanks are included in the price of the class.
Class size is 10 max students and 1 minimum student, minimum age limit is 16 years old.
The class cost is $30 for the three days.
Cost is $30. Note: there will be no power carving. The $25 deposit for the class is applied toward the cost of the class. The remainder of the fees are due to the instructor at the start of class.
