Chip Carving Grain Direction
This one day class is open for intermediate and advanced. If Beginning Chip Carving class has been taken, this class will be helpful to continuing chip carvers. There will be a choice of two projects. One will be coasters (material will be supplied). The second project a 7" x 5 1/2" x 2 3/4" slant top box which will cost $20. Emphasis will be on how to hold chip carving knife in the second position, how to determine gain direction in chip carving, and the importance of grain direction. Will review holding knife in first position learned in Beginning Chip Carving Class, and how to evaluate your cuts while maintaining consistent 50 to 60 degree angle. With a supplied transfer tool students will put patterns on practice boards and projects. Tools: Materials and patterns will be supplied. A chip carving knife will be supplied that will be returned or purchased (carvers own knife may be used). I/A Max 12 Min 5 Cost $50 includes materials and patterns.
