Introduction Stone Carving
Loren will be teaching the art of stone carving using only hand tools. Alabaster, Marble and Soapstone are available. Participants will complete a small "stylized" animal carving of a Turtle, Bear or Buffalo. Participants can expect to complete the project in two or three days, depending on which animal is chosen, the Turtle being the most simple and the Bear requiring the most time. The size and hardness of the stone selected will also impact how long it will take to complete the project. To broaden the experience, students will also have the opportunity to practice some hammer and chisel work on a larger stone. This class is designed for people who have never tried to carve stone or for those who have only a few times. All classes will be held outside and all tools will be supplied by the Instructor. To see some examples of Loren's work go to lorenlichtifineart.com. He has been carving stone for 35 years, and is confident that if you love to carve wood, you will also love to carve stone. Young people over the age of 16 are welcome in this class. Students interested in carving stone who wish to attempt a different carving, or wish to work on a larger sculpture are welcome and will get individual support and instruction. First time stone carvers are encouraged to start with a small Bear or Buffalo. If you have any questions, potential participants may contact Loren at firstname.lastname@example.org Tools: Provided. Max 8 Min 2 Cost: $50/day plus $35 to $65 for the stone. Note: Students should bring a towel and small Tupperware or plastic container with a lid, to save the rock dust that can be used for final polishing of the stone.
