2-day class, 4a-b; SA 7/13-SU 7/14
This is a two-day class. The student must commit to the two days. A brief discussion on facial anatomy and the placement of the facial features on your rough out will take place before the carving begins. The bust rough out measures approx. 10” x 6” x 2.5-3”. This carving will be in a full relief style and meant to either hang on a wall or be mounted on a base for free standing. Emphasis on the class will be assisting each carver in obtaining an enjoyable experience in carving Spotted Eagle and to hopefully aid each with a satisfying wood carving project.
The full 2-day class fee of $200 is due at time of registration. Cost of the blank, $35, will be payable to Mark on the day of the class.
Number of students: 8 minimum, 10 maximum.
This is open to carvers of all skill levels.
Tools needed: A couple of sharp detail/bench carving knives with blade lengths approximately 3/4 to 1-inch. Palm gouges with profiles/sweeps as follows: #3, #5, #7, #9, #11. The size of tools as follows: 2mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 9mm, 10mm, 12mm, and 14mm. Also, a couple of Vtools no larger than 10mm is needed. Micro carving tools will be very helpful for carving in facial detail. The set that Mark used is manufactured by Dockyard and is labeled “Gouge Set”. These tools have a #9 sweep and range is size from 2mm up to 6mm. They come packaged 5 tools per set. A carving glove for your protection is recommended. If you don’t like wearing a carving glove you might want to pack in some band-aids.
