Walking Cane Making
Larry will be teaching canes with stylized dog, dragon, eagle head, fritz, T handle, derby handle or stylized bird. Cane shafts can be plain, pierced, carved or wood burned. I will have some shafts with designs available. Most of my handles are Maple, Walnut, or some other figured hard wood. I will have some basswood handles for those who prefer them. Shafts are also exotic woods. If you want to do a Commemorative cane; either military, police or fire department; please call me well before the class at 928-445-8794. You will need to print out on computer paper the military shoulder patch in color 1 to 1 ¼ inch wide. All information that you want on the cane should be printed out in capital letters, Arial style and 28 font. Double space between words. You will need service dates, rank and medals. If you can print out pictures of the military rank it will look impressive on the cane shaft. Depending upon what you want to do, plan on 2 or 3 days to get a good start on your cane. Tools: Sharp knife, small gouges, safety glove, and wood burner with fine tip. See examples at the American National Cane Club website. B/I/A Max 6 Min 2 Cost: $35 for the class, plus $25-$50 for the blank.
