From Tree to Walking Staff

In this seminar we will start with an Aspen tree trunk and work it into a unique walking staff. This requires some time on the shave horse, which will be provided. Using a combination of draw knives, chisels, and gouges, we will explore the uses shave horse clamping system and the tools that make it sing. You may register for additional days of use of the shave horses throughout the week. The Shave Horse is an ancient clamping device that is actually really fun for us to use.
Walking staff decorations include spirals, balls, squares or diamonds, as well as recessed handle spaces.
Each student will have a shave horse of their own to use, with an option to buy it.
The full class fee of $45/day is due at time of registration. Blank cost of $65 is payable to Gary on the day of the class.
Number of Students: Minimum 2; Maximum 5
Skill Level: Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced
Tools needed: Gary will provide the Shave Horse, draw knife, chisels. Students may bring their own carving tools for detail work.
