PAT CARROLL Power Carve a Cogs and Gears Bowl 5-day class, SA-WE Pat Carroll is coming to us from Ireland. He learned the art of woodturning in 2001 from Willie Stedmond, one of the finest turners in Ireland and a founding member of the Irish Woodturners Guild. Pat learned power carving to add a new and exciting dimension to his woodturning art. He has won numerous awards and gained recognition as a world-class turner. Many of his works are in collections around the world and he has numerous articles published in the GMC Woodturning magazine. Learn more about Pat and see his work at patcarrollwoodturning.com. Pat is teaching how to power carve a “Cogs and Gears Bowl.” The bowl will be turned beforehand for students. The class schedule is as follows: SATURDAY: Introduction of Pat; Housekeeping and safety discussion; Outline of the course and discussion of the project and agenda for the week; Tools and equipment that will be used and skills that will be taught; Expectations from the course and how students will be able to apply what they learn for other projects. SUNDAY: Preparing the piece; Marking out the piece; Preparing the cogs and gears. MONDAY: Gluing the cogs and gears; Discussing patterns; Learning how to pierce safely and correctly. TUESDAY: Piercing the piece. Refining details on the surfaces; Pyrography texturing. WEDNESDAY: Final refinement. Applying finish; Discussing different finishes; Class discussion and critique of the piece and project plan. Summary from Instructor.

Tools needed: All tools will be supplied by Pat. Students must bring their own personal protective equipment. Students are welcome to bring their own power carver or pyrography machines to discuss correct usage. 

The cost of the 5-day class is $700 which includes all supplies and tools except the personal protective equipment.

Number of students: 8 minimum, 12 maximum.

This is open to all skill levels, beginners to advanced.
