CHRISTINE SMITH Power Carve a Red-tailed Hawk 5-day class, SA-WE
Power-carve and paint a realistic, 1/3rd sized Red-tailed Hawk from Tupelo wood. Learn how to carve, wood-burn detailed and dimensional feather patterns on a pre-shaped block of wood. Various carving and burning techniques will be covered in order to achieve a realistic look. Learn how to insert glass eyes and mount the bird on a base. This is a fast-paced class with emphasis on fine detail. Depart with a majestic hawk and added skills to your carving knowledge.
The cost of the 5-day class is $700 which includes the blank, legs, eyes, and base.
Number of students: 8 minimum, 10 maximum.
This is open to all skill levels, beginners to advanced.
Tools needed: Panavise; tabletop dust collection system; small work light; micro-carver (if available; Christine might have a couple loaners); wood-burning system (detailer with skew tip); assorted diamond carver and ruby carver bits; disposable dust mask; small hair dryer or fan (to help dry the acrylic paint) reference photos of a sitting Red-tailed hawk.
