The spike maul is the traditional hammer of the hard rock miners. In this seminar we will create a wooden version of the spike maul suitable for use as a cane. We will make the handle of maple and the maul head of butternut. This project will use the shave horse to fashion the shaft and shape the maul. Other hand tools will be used to work in the details. This project is especially designed for the Creede 35th Anniversary Roundup and will include a unique commemorative medallion.
The full class fee of $45/day is due at time of registration. Blank cost of $50 is payable to Gary on the day of the class.
Number of Students: Minimum 2; Maximum 8
Experience Level: Beginner/Intermediate/ Advanced
Tools Needed: Knife, gouges, and v-tools.
