Beckie STOVER
Gourd Decorating
2-day Class; MO 7/10-TU 7/11 and WE 7/12-TH 7/13
We are very fortunate to have Beckie Stover with us this year as an instructor. Beckie has been working with gourds since 2012 and is a member of the Texas Woodcarvers Guild, the American Gourd Society, the Texas Gourd Society, the Cowtown Gourd Patch and the Arlington Gourd Patch. She and her woodcarver husband, Stan Stover, live in Glen Rose, Texas.
The project for this class is a beautiful gourd bowl with an oak leaf pattern around the edge. The project involves wood burning, carving with a gourd saw and using alcohol ink dye. This is a 2-day class which should give each student ample time to complete their project. The second day enables the student to not only finish the project, but to also not feel rushed, while learning the skills needed to work with gourds. If you are experienced working with gourds, you could possibly finish in one day.
Beckie has other gourd designs if anyone would like to do a different gourd.
The full 2-day class fee of $40 is due at time of registration. The $10 cost for the gourd blank, as well as all the materials required to finish the project, is payable to Beckie on the day of the class.
Number of students: 6 maximum. All skill levels are welcome.
Tools needed: Apron, mask, wood burner with a skew tip and power carving unit such as a Ram Micro motor or Proxxon with a Fili-Point Burr. A light will be helpful. Also, if you have a craft heat gun, please bring it. If you do not have a power carving unit, fill point burr or craft heat gun, Beckie has one that will be available for you to share.
Questions may be directed to Beckie at bbstover48@gmail.com.
