Non-Carving Classes

WOODCARVERS RENDEZVOUS COLORADO
NON-CARVING CLASS DESCRIPTION - JULY 14TH - JULY 20TH, 2012
We are again offering a schedule of activities for non-carvers. These
classes will be held in the Underground mining museum and community
center. PLEASE dress in warm layers (especially doing gourds)
as the mine is usually on the cool side. Several small lamps will
be available for use, but if you have your own, you are welcome to bring
it and use it. Be sure to check the web site www.creedewoodcarvers.com
for pictures of the projects. You must have registered with CWRC
before/or while signing up for any of the following classes.
Classes
will be from 9AM to 4PM with a break for lunch, unless otherwise specified.

CHRISTMAS
IN JULY BRACELET - in the firehouse
4 mm bicone Swarovski Ruby and Emerald Crystals and dark gold seed
beads. B/I/A. You may borrow a beading mat and beading needles.
Kit will include: Fireline, beads and gold toggle clasp. Very helpful
to bring: light, power strip or extension cord and magnifier. Cost
of the class which includes the kit is $25. Maximum is 6 students.

PINE NEEDLE BASKETRY - For the fourth year of these classes,
we will be making a small basket with a lid and learn more different
stitches. We will be using the longleaf pine needles (14 to 18
inches long) for our projects. There will be extra supplies for
sale (as well as rainbow bundles if you want to do another rainbow

CROCHETED WIRE
JEWELRY - Traci Bates from Sutherland, Nebraska. You will use the
basic crochet chain stitch and using beads and wire to create a
crocheted wire necklace. No need to know how to crochet to be able
to complete your own necklace. I have a large selection of beads
and wire. I use a size "I" or "J" crochet hook.
I will have plenty of hooks to use and some to purchase. "I
have crocheted most of my life but learned this art 3 years ago
while shopping at a bead store in Colorado". Traci will also
teach BEGINNING TATTING by making a basic tatted border or a greeting
card. Traci has taught both of these classes in Nebraska at the
Great Plains Creative Arts Association Camp. She is a soil conservationist
by day and an artist/crafter in her spare time. If you have questions

GOURD - Class
Cost $40 includes all class fees, one day basic gourd design class.
Pat McKinney, Instructor from Wauneta, Nebraska. Everything you
need to complete one gourd will be included. Included with this
project is one cleaned gourd, twine or paper twist, plastic gloves,
brush, dyes, sandpaper, glue, antler button or walnut slice and
finish. If you have a wood burner, bring it with you, but it is
not necessary. Pat has taught both gourd design and pine needle
basketry and is a wood carver too. Max 10; Min 4. Bring your imagination!

SWEDISH WEAVING
- Michalyn Erickson and Donna Stanfield are the instructors. The
cost is $30.00 which includes kit for afghan. Swedish weaving is
weaving yarn through Monk's cloth to form interesting patterns and
designs. It's a wonderful project to do while traveling or visiting
with friends. The end result is a very serviceable afghan, lap throw,
place mat, table runner, baby blanket, etc. Michalyn has also used
it to make a vest. The ideas will be limited only by your imagination!
Donna will teach the beginners and Michalyn will take the intermediate
class. Come have fun with us.

Breta and Denny
Jackson from LaVista, NE will be teaching 3 gourd classes at $40
each. Breta is a member, former secretary, board member and librarian
assistant of Mid-America Woodcarvers Assoc. They have attended many
gourd classes and have received awards at carving shows. She has
been carving for several years. Denny is teaching Indian flutes

DECORATIVE GOURD - Decorative gourd with poinsettia flower and holly
leaves wood burned and painted. Transfer of pattern, wood burning
design, using gourd saw and cleaning out gourd. Bring wood burner,
but not necessary. Instructors will have tools for students use.

COLLAGE
CARD MAKING - Cost is $20.00 per class. Darlene Danko is the instructor.
Darlene is a fiber artist with BFA in Textile Design. She is always
seeking creative ways to utilize her surface design silk fabric
scraps. One of the results of this experimentation is the line
of cards she developed. Come play and learn to make collage cards
with fabric, exotic paper, ribbon and assorted decorative items.
You will make 3 to 6 cards depending on your ambition. All materials
are included. Please bring scissors and assorted small items you've
collected that may work on a card. You can view examples of Darlene's

TENERIFFE WEAVING ON GOURD - Teneriffe weaving on gourd using waxed
line thread. Gourd will be readied for weaving, cleaned and adornments
added. All materials furnished by instructor.

POLYMER
CLAY Instructor Sylvia Regelbrugge -. The Premo Polymer Clay we
will be using is a certified non-toxic. Small items will be "prebaked"
in class in a portable oven, but crosses or larger items will be
baked by you after class in an ordinary oven at 275o. She will have
Premo Sculpey Artist's Clay for sale, however, clay needed for the
classes will be provided as noted.
POLYMER CLAY EMBELLISHED STEEL CROSS: (Class cost: $25.00; supplies
$30.00 additional and includes (one) steel cross, all needed polymer
clay, miscellaneous metal ball chain and other trim items, as well
as a sturdy box in which to carry your cross. You will have your
choice of a top quality steel cross from a variety of shapes with
sizes ranging from 9 ½
to 14-inches high. (First come, first served). All crosses have
a hanger welded on the back. You will also have your choice of embellishment
patterns and colors. (Notes: It is helpful to bring a small sharp
knife. - Due to the size of the crosses, they will have to be baked
by you after the class in an ordinary oven at 275o for 30 minutes.
Class size limited to 14 students

POLYMER CLAY
TECHNIQUES: 1 PC Faux Turquoise, 2. PC Crackle, 3 PC Marbelzing.
Class cost $25.00. Class materials will be provided at no additional
cost.) Each of these techniques will be demonstrated, and you will
make a pendant using one or more of the techniques -depending on
your own personal timing to complete. We also will demonstrate basic
polymer clay bead making. You will receive printed instructions
for all these techniques. (Notes:) It is helpful to bring a small
sharp knife and a small box in which to take your items. We will
be "pre-baking" your items in a portable oven, but you
will want to complete the baking process in your home in an ordinary
oven at 275o for additional 30 minutes. Class size limited to 14.
Please see Class #3 below, to learn how to complete your projects
by adding jewelry findings.

DECORATIVE VASE GOURD - Decorative vase gourd approximately 10-inches
high on a base. Gourd will be given an ancient look through wood
burning, painting, stitching with waxed line, and finish applied.

JEWELRY FINDINGS
- (Cost $25.00, class materials will be provided at no additional
cost. Bring items you want to string, attach clips to etc. to class.
Learn how to make necklaces, earrings and bracelets using the polymer
clay pendants and beads you have made, or bring (costume jewelry
only, please) items you want to restring or repair. Learn various
methods of jewelry findings to make earrings, necklaces and bracelets
and how to attach several kinds of closures and clasps. (Note:)
We will have several sets of jewelry-findings tools to share, but
it would be useful to bring your own set of tools if you plan to
continue making jewelry after the class. I will provide the findings
needed for the class. Class size limited to 12 students.
